A window to a bright future

Thursday 4th September 2008

The Portal Programme - a window to a bright future

In October 2008 SMART will be rolling out its new educational course - the Portal Porgramme - in Milton Keynes and Oxford.

The course is designed to encourage people back into education and reintegrate back into the community.

"After years of substance misuse many people have low self-worth. We hope the Portal programme will not only provide an opportunity for these individuals to gain qualifications but also build-up much needed confidence and self-esteem." Programme Coordinator, Jan Snape

The Portal Programme, which was developed by SMART, is made up of eight different modules  which come under the broad heading: 'For Drug Awareness & Lifestyle Changes'. The Open College Network South East Region has accredited units at three levels for each module.

The OCNSER is licensed by the National Open College Network to award nationally recognised qualifications and credit-based regionally accredited units. OCNs have consistently celebrated diversity of learners and learning programmes, and have a long term commitment to progression.

This 10-week modular format offers the widest range of high quality learning and the chance to obtain qualifications for higher education and career development.

The SMART Portal Programme provides students with the opportunity to:

  • learn in a relaxed and supportive environment
  • use the library and computing facilities
